IMMIGRATION

Law Resource Links, Maryland

We assist individuals, families, and businesses to navigate the U.S. immigration system.

In a sense, everyone in the United States is an immigrant. Most legal and illegal immigrants enter the United States in search of a better life for themselves and their families. Some are recent immigrants, while others are “generational immigrants.” most immigrants positively contribute to the “great idea” and “experiment” that is America.

Our firm has been handling immigration matters for over twenty-five years. We have represented individuals, families, and businesses in the United States and worldwide. The firm’s Principal, Attorney Edwin K. Fogam, is an immigrant with vast international experience and a firm grasp of U.S. immigration laws.

Immigration law is quite complex since it involves many government agencies and requires understanding numerous federal rules and regulations. For example, the fact that you are genuinely married to a United States citizen does not automatically enable you to become a legal resident in the United States. You do not only have to file the necessary papers but must also prove that the marriage is a good faith marriage and not a sham marriage entered into solely for immigration purposes. Similarly, you can overstay your legal status without knowing. For example, even if your visa allows for multiple entries over five years, you cannot stay beyond the period authorized by the port of entry.

Another example is that even as a permanent resident (green card holder), some missteps can put you in removal proceedings that may result in your removal from the United States. And yes, even naturalized United States citizens can be “denaturalized” (your citizenship taken away). There are many of these “traps” in immigration matters.

As an American Immigration Lawyers Association member, our office keeps abreast with immigration law issues to provide our clients with outstanding representation. Whether you are seeking permanent resident status (green card), asylum, citizenship, or you are in immigration proceedings fighting removal from the United States, we may be able to help you. We have handled challenging and complex employment and family-based immigration cases; deportation and removal proceedings before the immigration courts, Board of Immigration Appeals, and Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals. We have secured the release of foreign nationals from immigration custody; we have obtained cancellation of removal, adjustment of status, citizenship, and voluntary departure for our clients. We have successfully obtained fraud and other waivers for our clients. We have used the writ of error Coram Nobis to vacate criminal convictions for our clients and render them eligible for immigration relief.

When you retain us to represent you, you join our “family,” you will feel at home. We are not surprised by midnight calls from our clients who are worried about their cases. We are always there for them.

Do not fear the U.S. Immigration system; understand it and benefit from its opportunities.
